Poetry and Writing

Joy is a writer based in Stockport whose poems are published in many literary magazines including The North, Iota, Dream Catcher, Haiku Quarterly, Moonstone and originally in Phoenix. In February 2022 Joy had two poetry pamphlets published by Bedford Falls publications, with a launch event at Burnage Library.

Copies of both Word Hoards and Shout are available for purchase from the publishers.

She was shortlisted for the Cinnamon Press Poetry pamphlet competition in 2017 and has an MA in Poetry from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Her poems have been in the following anthologies – Invisible Zoos (Eithon Bridge) and Peterloo Poets (Seven Arches) both 2019; Writing the Cathedral (Manchester Cathedral, 2014); Best of Manchester Poets (Puppywolf , 2013). Her first novel was shortlisted by North West Arts and she is currently finishing a new novel.

In June 2022 her poem ‘Lord Egremont decides to change course’ was published in Orbis 200, following the publication of both poetry and a short story in Orbis 193 (2020).

She has read her poetry in libraries, pubs, Manchester Cathedral and public halls.

Activities and Events

As Writer-in Residence at Burnage Library, Joy organises several Open Mic nights each year and runs a Writers Group on the 2nd Monday of each month.

Joy co-runs Manchester Stanza group which meets on the 1st Tuesday of every month at Manchester Central Library.
